C-BAR is founded to trumpet the indisputable tradition of Black resilience and agency, challenging the narrative that emphasizes vulnerability.

Our vision

The Center for Black Resilience is a vital hub for interdisciplinary research, dialogue, and actionable solutions. We are committed to breaking free from a deficit focused perspective to engage in a more profound exposition, understanding, assertive nurturing, and reliance on our proven resilience and agency.

Supported by broad interdisciplinary collaborations—including mental health, medicine, history, religion, athletics, economics, the arts, education, technology, and more—we are launching a three-pronged offensive in education, research, and action. This strategy is designed to firmly establish the narrative of Black resilience as the central story of the African American experience and to deepen and broaden this indispensable asset as we advance.

Our blueprint

A family of seven-- children and adults-- engage in a giant group hug, smiling.

Our Call to Action

As we embark on this journey, we assert that resilience is the story of our lives, connecting past, present, and future. By understanding and fostering this resilience, by affirming our agency and self-determination, we augment and energize efforts to topple societal barriers to achieving optimal health and boundless potential.
